Back to School Tax Free week

Take Advantage of great sales

August 1, 2014

This year’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday starts tomorrow Friday, August 1, 2014 12:01 a.m. and end at midnight Sunday, August 3, 2014!

So what’s tax free and what’s not you ask? …here it is in a nutshell.

Tax Free

·         Clothing, footwear, and certain accessories selling for $100 or less per item

·         School supplies selling for $15 or less per item

·         Computers and related accessories selling for $750 or less per item when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use

Remember that “Tax free” applies no matter how many items you buy at the same time as long as each item is within the “less than” guidelines.  So stock up on those needed items, there’s no need to make the line twice!

Not Tax Free

·         Books are NOT exempt from sales tax

·         Clothing, school supplies, or computers and related accessories purchased at a theme park, entertainment complex, hotel, or airport are not exempt

·         When tax free items are normally sold together with taxable merchandise as a set or single unit, the full price is subject to sales tax

·         When the total price of items advertised as “buy one, get one free,” or “buy one, get one for a reduced price,” the price cannot be averaged for both items to qualify for the exemption

·         Any item of clothing selling for more than $100

·         Any school supply item selling for more than $15

·         Any personal computer or related accessory selling for more than $750

**Youth bicycle helmets, child restraint systems & booster seats are tax exempt beginning July 1, 2014 **
